Christian Coaching Foundations

Discerning Purpose with Christian Coaching

Discerning God's purpose for our lives is biblical and a vital component of Christianity in action. Christian coaching facilitates the discovery and exploration of God's purpose in the participants lives. While personal prayer and reflection is essential for discernment and direction, help putting context and purpose into the situation by having a coaching mirror can be very constructive. Pastors and their congregations could do with coaching to reflect positive possibilities, while systematically putting aside personal agendas in favor of God's direction.

Coaching is all about humility and personal character. Grounded in Christian values and self-awareness, coaches are realistically optimistic while being sensitive to people. Genuinely caring and trustworthy, successful coaching is about putting God and their client first under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. An excellent resource exploring the foundation of Christian coaching is Christian Coaching, Helping Others Turn Potential into Reality by Gary R. Collins.

Christian coaching is about action through facilitating change in people through building skills and teams. Coaches stimulate vision and walking with people through life's transitions. Coaching can be about waiting for God's timing not the client's or the coach's need for success. Putting context and purpose into the situation by acting as the coaching mirror reflecting positive possibilities is at the core of successful Christian coaching.
